Environmentally friendly practices we implement throughout the potato growing process, from planting to harvest: One of our significant efforts lies in minimising food miles by growing the primary ingredient, the potatoes directly here at Skelton in East Yorkshire on our family farm where the crisp factory is also based. This approach not only ensures the freshest and highest-quality potatoes but also significantly reduces transportation emissions associated with sourcing ingredients from distant locations. Moreover, we seek to source other ingredients and packaging as locally as possible, further reducing the impact of transportation on the environment.

Steps taken to reduce the farms carbon footprint and minimise waste in crisp production: To reduce the
farm’s carbon footprint, we have implemented fully recyclable packaging, we thoughtfully explored biodegradable options with suppliers. We ultimately opted for recyclable foil as the most viable choice. Additionally, our commitment to sustainability extends to how we grow our potatoes, aligning with the Red Tractor fresh produce standard, ensuring responsible and environmentally friendly practices throughout our farming operations.

Unique initiatives & partnerships to support sustainable agriculture: As an innovative approach we have
been collaborating with Brocklesby in East Yorkshire to collect and re-process oil and waste crisps from our
production. This sustainable initiative ensures that these materials are transformed into valuable resources, either as renewable energy or renewable aviation fuel. Moreover, we prioritise the recycling and reusing of packaging materials whenever possible, further minimising waste and its impact on the environment.

Land Fertility & Renewable Energy: Here at Listers Crisps we are committed to preserving the land’s fertility and ensuring its health for future generations. As part of our sustainability efforts, we have already taken significant strides by incorporating solar panels on site, increasing our reliance on renewable energy. Over the next 12 months, we have ambitious plans to expand our commitment by installing additional solar panels and battery storage systems, aiming to rely extensively on solar energy for our production processes. Furthermore, we will be actively exploring the viability of wind energy on the site, a step that will bring us even closer to achieving our sustainability goals.
