It’s All About Family
At Lister’s Crisps, everything we do starts with family. We’re Tom and Laura Platt, and along with our daughters, we live and work on our family farm in Howden, East Yorkshire. It’s here, in the very fields where our potatoes are grown, that every bag of crisps begins.
In 2019, we took a leap and launched Lister’s – combining generations of farming knowledge with our shared desire to craft hand-cooked crisps that were full of flavour, crunch, and pride. We’re third- and fourth-generation farmers, and our mission has always been simple: do things properly, and never lose sight of our roots.

What It Means to Be a Family-Run Business in the UK
In today’s world of mass production, long supply chains, and faceless food factories, we believe there’s something special about staying independent.Â
As a family-run food business in the UK, we’re involved in every step — from seed to snack bowl.Â
That means we personally grow the potatoes, oversee production, taste-test every batch, and pack each order with care.
It’s not just a job. It’s a way of life.
Unlike large-scale manufacturers, we’re not chasing scale at the expense of quality. Every decision we make is guided by flavour, sustainability, and tradition – not cost-cutting or shortcuts.
From Yorkshire Soil to the Perfect Crisp
Our crisps start with one very important ingredient: home-grown Yorkshire potatoes.
We carefully select varieties suited for frying, nurture them in our rich East Yorkshire soil, and harvest them at their peak.Â
This control over the growing process is what allows us to create such a consistent, flavourful crisp – time and again.
The potatoes are then washed, sliced, and hand-cooked in small batches just metres from where they were harvested. It’s slower, yes, but worth it. With each batch seasoned while still warm using our own flavour blends, the result is a proper crisp with real character.
Â
The Keepers of Tradition
At Lister’s Crisps, tradition isn’t a marketing word – it’s our reality.
We still grow, cook, and pack on the same land our family has worked for generations. We still walk the fields, test the soil,Â
and know our crops inside out. We still taste-test every flavour, and we still believe that good food starts with good ingredients – not additives.
Being a family-run food business means we’re accountable, proud, and connected to what we create. And we believe that care comes through in every crunch.
Â
Rooted in Yorkshire, Ready for the Future
Aside from crisps, our farm is still a working arable operation, growing wheat, barley, oats, and oil seed rape, and raising our own beef cattle.Â
We’re proud of our heritage, but we’re just as committed to sustainable practices – including improving our packaging and exploring renewable energy for the site.
So whether you pick up a bag of Sea Salted, Steak, Ale & Caramelised Onion, or Sweet Chilli, know this: it came from a place that cares. From our field to your snack cupboard.
